David Reed
David Reed started painting his signature horizontal images after Nick Wilder, a legendary Los Angeles dealer, mentor and painter suggested that every home needed a painting over the sofa and over the bed. These sexy flat surfaces with plastic color and gestural motion were a mastery of color and technique. Long aluminum plates fit together to make his horizontal compositions. Paint gestures were laid down by brush, then oil paint was squeegied over the gestures, leaving pulled color in the unpainted areas and a shadow of the original gestures behind.
