One of Garner's first artists to visit Santa Barbara to collaborate on monotypes arrived with a small suitcase containing his important items. Inside were two cartons of Marlborogh cigarettes from his corner market (no other source would do), a change of clothes, changes of underwear and his pastels, made to his particular specifications: suitable for turning to dust. Each print pulled from the press was dusted with the fine pastel powder blown specifically to adhere to the monotype's wet oil paint. Boxer was unable to achieve the monumentality of his painted brush stroke through the monotype so a series of plaster reliefs were made into a painted bronze edition.
